Dye! Good or bad Idea?

A little while ago, I just couldn't bear to see our old Ikea couch in that worn out red fabric any longer. Not wanting to dish out $400 bucks, (if I didn't absolutely have to), I wanted to find another way. So, I had a thought. How about dye? What if I dyed that sucker a dark brown or black? I had played around with dye a couple of times before, read more about my experiences here and here.

Considering that I am going to get a new sofa cover no matter what, I figured I don't have too much to lose. The only downside is if my project- experiment- is going to go bad, I will have a crappy looking cover or cushions or be without a cover until the new one arrives.

I am off to the store to check out my options. Right now the two strong contenders are Dylon or IDye. Eenie, Meenie, Miny, Moe. Wish me luck. I have a weird feeling about this experiment. I meant to say project.
