Pillow Love & Valentine's Day Accents

Is anyone else getting ready for Valentine's day? For some reason it doesn't feel like a big holiday to me, but I will be adding a couple of Valentine's day touches here and there throughout our house. One of those touches is this poster.

You can purchase this gorgeous poster called Endless love over at Bodie and Fou.

This love pillow has made its way to our couch. I saw this pillow online and really wanted one, but couldn't find it anywhere. I really really liked it, so I decided to make my own.

I have just recently started to make pillows, after seeing Barbara's fabulous tutorials, but this was going to require some trim. Hmmm, how do you add trim when making a pillow? I used a great tutorial that Janell from Isabella and Max rooms posted on her site (how to make a trim edge pillow with a zipper closure). 

And after I finished the pillow, I simply cut the letters from black fabric and ironed them on with fusible web.

And voila. Adding a little love accent to our place.

1, 2 Buckle my shoe

I am always making little things to go in my little munchkin's room and this art project is the latest addition.  He has a rather long, undecorated wall, that I am attempting to transform into a "gallery wall".  I didn't choose a theme, but I would like it to be playful and colorful.  One of my goals for this week is to finish his gallery wall and post it on the blog. There, I wrote it down and now I have to finish it. Wish me luck. Back to topic now.

So, every time I visit Ikea, I would stop by the art section and this print kept catching my eye. 

I was thinking of buying it, but usually the next thought would be, 'I might be able to do that'.  I had a leftover canvas from another project (which wasn't very successful) and used it for this. That is why the white canvas might look like it is painted.  I wanted my numbers to have a textured feel, so I was thinking of making the numbers out of potato and then stamping it on the canvas.  But I figured I could never carve out a nice looking number, so out goes that option.

So, then the idea hit me that I could "borrow" my son's foam numbers that he plays with at bath time. Ta da daa!

It worked well and that is what I ended up using. I am pretty happy with how it turned out.  Check it out!

Can you say easy peasy children's artwork? It was quick, easy and it didn't cost me a penny. We are trying to learn numbers, but the only one my little munchkin says, is two two two. He won't say one, but he will definitely say two. Off I go to practice three, four etc. Have a great day!

Nursery Art Ideas- Avalisa

When I was expecting our little munchkin and planning his nursery, I was overwhelmed by the amount of super cute art prints out there. As you might well know, there is always that one thing that stands out to you though. Well, for me, one of those things were these gorgeous canvas prints by Avalisa. I love the simple lines and beautiful colors they come in. Here are some of their prints:

Butterfly Canvas Artwork

Last week I shared a sneak preview of a project that I had worked on. Well here I am now to share the inspiration behind my project. This was the sneak preview ...

And here is the final product...

It all started when I saw the beautiful artwork of Paul Villinski on apartment therapy. They had written an article about how he uses old beer cans and creates these gorgeous pieces of work. Since, I love butterflies, I knew I wanted to try making something similar. We also have a huge wall in our living room and figured this would be the perfect solution to fill in the space. Here is some of his work.

Can you believe that the butterflies are made of recycled beer cans?

I will post all the how to steps for you tomorrow. I am not sure I am quite finished with mine, but I guess its a work in progress.
