Night Table Makeover

I am not sure if I told you this, but the guest room that I was working on did not have much in there, just some old mattresses and a small side table. There was an old brown, ugly night table, but I wanted to make it look cozy and inviting in there. So, a brown night table would definitely not fit in there. How about this looker? Isn't he a gem? Gotta love Ikea.

It's the Birkeland night table for $99. I liked the heavy look to it, and the fresh white color. Only problem, it was way out of my budget. So, what is a girl to do? The room wasn't finished when my friend got home and when I mentioned my dilemma to him, he said...well, there is another ugly brown night table in the basement. Hooray!!! I had two. Two ugly brown night tables. I was thrilled. I was going to turn them to the good side. Meaning, I would transform the ugly brown suckers into gorgeous white night tables. Here is brown ugliness. 

Here is the new night table, looking mighty fresh. Whoever thought a couple of coats of white paint would make such a difference. 

How did I do it? Well here are a couple of pics that are pretty self explanatory, but I added a couple of notes. 

1. Sanding it. I probably could have done without it, but I opted to sand it, just to make sure that the paint will stick. 

2. I primed it. Absolutely love Zinsser. 

And here it is. 

I am pretty happy that I did not dish out $200 for two night stands. When I asked my friend how much these were, he told me that he had bought them for $10 each. I feel pretty great about it, especially since this way there might be a small chance I will stick to my budget.
